The Year End Wrap Up: 2009

3 Jan

What was the best part of last year?

It wouldn’t be fair to say that there was just one best part of the year, so I’ll name a few of them: Moving into my new apartment, meeting Ben, discovering a hidden talent for creative writing, getting a new car for my 25th birthday, reading the Twilight Saga, uncovering a totally new perspective on life/developing a new personal philosophy, and reaching new depths of self through various experiences.

What was the worst part of last year?

The lack of employment, finding employment, and the stress being unemployed presents.

What was the biggest surprise of last year?

Meeting Ben and getting a new car. Although the latter is a material possession, the attachment to my Honda (first car) was very strong and it was a tear-induced parting when I finally had to sell it. Meeting Ben was a huge surprise because I met him when I least expected it. I know that’s how it usually goes, but I was at this point in my life where I had all this love built up inside of me, waiting to be given to someone else, when Ben so casually made his presence known. My Bennylove.

What are you most looking forward to next year?

Traveling abroad with Ben to his sister’s wedding in London, Ben relocating to Arizona, and us moving in together–no more long distance bullshit!

Is there anything you are not looking forward to next year?

Turning 26 and all of the unanticipated dramatics of every day life.

Which new years resolutions did you keep last year?

I don’t think I ever made one? It seems pointless to make a resolution when all you need is more self-discipline. For example, I won’t ever make a resolution to quit smoking because I enjoy smoking cigarettes and designating a day to quit would only torture me. I’d rather choose to quit gradually versus cold turkey because going the abrupt route will only result in a lot of unnecessary bullshit.

If I were to make one, I’d choose to do something like save more money by buying less unnecessary shit, or to spend 30 minutes everyday working on a personal project regardless of how hectic my day may be.

According to Dictionary.com, the definition of resolution are: 1. a resolve or determination: to make a firm resolution to do something; 2. the act of resolving or determining upon an action or course of action, method, procedure, etc.; and 3. the mental state or quality of being resolved or resolute; firmness of purpose.

What will you be doing on new years eve?

Hanging out with my Bennylove at home in Jersey, watching movies, sipping wine, and indulging in many unhealthy snacks. Being safe and warm is a little bit more important than dealing with the chaos associated with the typical New Years Eve celebrations.

Who will you probably end up kissing to see the new year in?

My beloved Ben Archer of course! Kissing him sends powerful vibrations through my body so I’m looking forward to our midnight kiss this evening!

What was the best song of last year?

Hmmm, this is a tough one, so I will go with the albums and songs I discovered this past year (regardless of when they were released) that I absolutely love.

  • David Guetta’s album One Love.
  • Mute Math’s song You Are Mine.
  • Save Ferris’ album It Means Everything; Lies and Goodbye are my top songs from this album.
  • Iron & Wine’s song Flightless Bird, American Mouth
  • Thom Yorke’s song Hearing Damage
  • The Twilight and New Moon Original Soundtracks

What was the best TV show of last year?

Anything on The Travel Channel, without a doubt!

What was the best book you read last year?

The Twilight Saga hands down! John Krakauer’s Into The Wild was pretty damn good as well.

What was the best film of last year?

Hmmm, The Twilight Saga: New Moon is obviously on the top of my list, but I also loved:

  • Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
  • The Hangover
  • Slumdog Millionaire
  • He’s Just Not That Into You
  • The Cake Eaters
  • Adventureland
  • Little Ashes
  • The Proposal

What change would you like to make to your life next year?

To become more financially stable, to move in with Ben, and to have less stress.

What change would you like to see in the world next year?

I want to see this economic crisis put to an end; for people to be nicer to each other and stop being a bunch of egotistical hatin’ ass pricks; to see gay marriage accepted and allowed around the US, if not the entire world; and to stop wasting our time, money, energy, and human lives in this bullshit war that’s been going on forever.
